When I met him, on the eve of the first debate, he was dressed in a natty gray suit and was the picture of serenity. When it comes to offsetting the negativity of disgust, does pride really work just as well as serenity? Arriving in Boston was like landing upon the bosom of serenity from the derangement of a war zone. She continued to encourage me, with a serenity and strength that was like nothing I had encountered. When the intellect had arrived at this doctrine, calmness and serenity fell upon it. How all serenity and joy had fled from these later exercises of art degraded into journey-work! Tharn met the angry eyes with a serenity he secretly was far from feeling. And then, with inconceivable rapidity, we came back to the serenity and confidence which comes with daylight.
OTHER WORDS FROM serenity
Almost everyone has heard the Serenity Prayer or a variation of it, but what does serenity truly mean? While the meaning can vary from person to person, the practice of serenity can make a big difference in your recovery. Serenity can help you find inner peace, enjoy a less chaotic lifestyle and throw away the addictions that hindered you in the past. Your life is beautiful, and through serenity and Recovery, you can reclaim control over a hopeless situation. Start Your Journey. The definition of serenity is a state of being calm, peaceful and untroubled. While addiction often brings chaos, a loss of control and emotional turmoil, serenity will help you stay calm and true to yourself. Others look at serenity as a sense of coming home to your true self and purpose. Experiencing a state of serenity can help you avoid chronic stress and also tell you more about the activities that make you happy.
Serenity certainly deserves an A for effort. Then again, that description hardly does justice to Serenity, a film so magnificently ill-conceived that it instantly earns a spot alongside I Know Who Killed Me and The Number 23 in the pantheon of great terrible movies. The burnout is played by a slurry, blurry Matthew McConaughey, chewing scenery as if the McConaissance were nothing more than a collective delusion. If you want to get the payoff without doing the work? Stick around, and buckle up. So: does it turn out that Dill has been dead the whole time? Does he have a telepathic connection to his estranged child, or a case of multiple-personality disorder? Is somebody, anybody, secretly a robot? But sort of. Neither is Karen.
Spoilers for Serenity abound. Every January, moviegoers and critics alike are treated to a slate of new releases that major studios dump from their roster during awards season. The quality of these movies varies widely good, bad, fun-bad, crazy-bad, crazy-fun bad, etc. Enter Serenity , a sun-drenched neo-noir with literary and classical Hollywood aspirations, by which I mean everyone involved tries really hard to ape To Have and Have Not. Matthew McConaughey plays Baker Dill, a fishing-boat captain living on the island of Plymouth who nurses scars from his tours in Iraq and his failed marriage. He earns a living by taking tourists on game-fishing trips on his boat, the Serenity, but frequently gets distracted by his quest to catch a rare tuna that eludes his grasp. One night, his ex-wife Karen Anne Hathaway comes to town with an ingenious plan in tow: Dill will bring her rich, abusive husband, Frank Jason Clarke , on his boat to fish, get him drunk, and then push him overboard so he can be eaten by sharks. All the noir tropes are present — long-buried secrets, old flames, shady villains, sexy flings, murder, casual alcoholism, etc. Halfway through the film, Dill finally meets Reid Miller Jeremy Strong , a traveling bait salesman who has been trying to get ahold of him for the past few days. The tasks Dill completes every day, such as taking tourists out on his boat or finding a lost cat for his casual hookup Diane Lane or trying to catch that rare tuna, are all part of the larger game to keep Patrick focused.
